arrr!

Liberation‘s Jean-Dominique Merchet mentions the most European of events, the collision between a British and a French ballistic missile submarine. I was especially interested to know that the British boat Splendid had collided with a huge Soviet missile boat of the Typhoon class back in 1987.

They probably gave the captain a medal. Now, not so much.

  1. They probably gave the captain a medal. Now, not so much.

Given that the objective of NATO attack submarines was to follow Warsaw Pact ballistic missile boats without being detected, I somehow doubt that the aforementioned captain received commendation.

  2. You are right. A frog missile sub is worth a knighthood. As he didn’t sink it, no earlship, sorry.

  3. Oliver, I was thinking of the Typhoon.

I mean, if they were close enough to collide with it they were close enough to sink it…
