Request thread

We’re borrowing a page from Matt Yglesias (who borrowed it from Ezra Klein). Put your suggestions for topics in the thread, and I or someone else will try to write something the next day. What would you like to read about?

  1. you probably are not looking for another Georgia topic, but Id love to see more detail about the impact of whats happened so far on public opinion in europe, most especially in Germany, and especially as it relates to Russia.

  2. Well, alright. Um. How about:

    Russian community in the Baltics?
    EU CAP negotiations?
    Ukraine as of late?
Impact of commodity prices on EU economy, by nation?
    Sex?

  3. My wish list. Thanks for considering it:

    * Ukraine/Russian relations
    * Some perspective on the Euro as an alternate currency to the USD

  4. The future of NATO and Atlanticism. Also, if possible, entries on Finland, Sweden, and their possible membership in the NATO.

  5. Atlantic and European Expansion: Will Russia ever join NATO? Will Middle Eastern and African nations ever join the EU? Can the EU and NAFTA merge?

Atlantic and European Devolution: Will NATO or the EU break up?

Atlantic and European Consolidation: United States of Europe? Airstrip One as the 61st state?

  6. A thread on the difficulty Croatia will have in entering the EU. For example: Croatian roads are death traps — can they be brought up to European norms without leveling whole cities and starting over?

  7. i am interested in any and all takes on the current political situation in italy – leadership, economy, rumors, scandal, etc. etc.

also, a good friend who used to blog from portugal has moved back to the states, so any updates from there are welcome.

  8. After the events in Georgia, the likelihood that Azerbaijan will attempt to seize Nagorno Karabagh. If so, when?

  9. I take my topic back. Doug Muir has already partially addressed Nagorno Karabagh on August 13.

  10. Also on Georgia, I’d like to read your thoughts on the strange history of Russian cooperation as co-religionists with the Georgians (as well as the Armenians)in the Caucasus over the past 250 years. As I see it (I can read Russian but not Georgian) the Russians feel a sense of BIG brotherhood with the Caucasian Christians, and of course Hell hath no fury like a big brother rejected, after all the help he’s given you. And then there’s the whole Stalin thing.

But I’m one-dimensional. I’ve only visited Georgia once (to see Tblisi and Gori), and have no firsthand knowledge of how the Georgians feel about Russia, and may be projecting as a younger brother myself.

  11. This may seem like a given but:

Updates on Karadzic and his trial and the overall implications any new developments would have on the Balkans.

I agree with Bob above who wanted to know about Croatia’s progress towards EU membership.

  12. Caucasus in context, including Russia and Turkey
    Azerbaijan

    The Habsburg empire today

    The High North, including Russia
Our seas (North Sea, Baltic Sea, Arctic, Mediterranean, Black Sea)
    Tax-free islands

    Europe and China
    Europe and India

    Italy and Albania

Trans-European infrastructure projects, who makes them, who benefits, who loses?
    Experiences with cross-border regions
