Two years ago today…

Hey, I know!

I just got the idea of starting a politics weblog with a bunch of euros (expats would be ok too.)

Brilliant, eh? Of course I’ve only thought about for five seconds.

Now I just have to find some reasonably smart and not too wingnutty people who’s interested?

Anyone up for it?

Update: Nah.

Update: Yes!

I can’t really put my mind around the fact that it was two years ago today, or that afoe’s will soon have its 2nd anniversary. If I accomplish nothing else in life, well, this is… something.

#afistfulofeuros

I’ve set up an afoe IRC channel on the nightstar channel, if your into that kinda thing. The nice thing with nightstar is that you don’t have to use a client if you don’t want to, they have a web based interface.

If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, just go here, enter #afistfulofeuros as channel, hit connect, and then you can chat with your fellow afoe readers (and us bloggers).

A Fistful of Readers.

I know that web statistics are inherently unreliable. I have seen server statistics that differ from each other to an extent it raises important epistemological questions. However, in the blogosphere, sitemeter figures are the most common currency – and by that standard, we at afoe at some point earlier today welcomed our 400,000th unique visitor since the day that will live in infamy.

I would like to take advantage of this brief moment of reflection to thank all of you, our gentle readers, for your continuing interest in the fistful and, of course, for your immensely valuable contributions to the debate!

All good things come to an end

You might have noticed that we haven’t updated AFOE for a week, and that the posting frequency dropped considerably in the last weeks. I’m sad to say that we’re not coming back; this will be the last update to A Fistful of Euros. The archives and links will be maintained.

The reason isn’t any great falling out, suffice to say that we all felt that things weren’t working out, and it was time to move on. However, I know that I speak for all of us when I say that I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved these last nineteen months, and will remember this period of my life with great fondness.

You’re not quite rid of us. We will of course continue blogging at our own weblogs. I strongly recommend you add Nick, Scott in Prague, Scott in Brussels, Claudia and Doug, Tobias, Mrs T and Matt to your daily reading list if you haven’t already. (I wouldn’t really recommend reading me, but not quite advise against it.)

I understand Doug (Merrill) will start a blog of his own, and afaik Edward is still planning to resume blogging.

I want to thank all my co-bloggers for letting me be a part of this thing. It’s been a blast.

April 2 Update: Fooled you.
