The Second Annual Satin Pajama Awards

…The Satin Pajamas have been delayed because of the webhost migration and some other unforeseen things. The voting will begin soon, within a week at least, so I’ll bump this post again.

‘Tis the season of blog awards, among them our own European Weblog Awards or Satin Pajamas.

Last year I wrote: The purpose of the awards is to recognize the efforts and contributions of Europe’s many talented bloggers, to maybe help build a sense of community among us, and, more than anything, it’s a chance for people to discover lots of new good blogs.

Last year’s awards did just that, and they were great fun. I’m sure this year will be no different.

…I really should clarify the rules. A blog is eligible if it’s written by Europeans or has a European (Czech, Catalan…) theme. Our own blogs aren’t eligible. Finalists are chosen based on the number of nominations as well as editorial discretion. So you want to nominate your favored blog even if someone else already mentioned it.

You will all remember the Satin Pajama awards with great fondness, I trust. Lots of new blogs for everybody, staggeringly opulent prizes for the favoured few, and a juicy whiff of scandal into the bargain — good clean fun for the whole family.

Well, if you like that sort of thing, you’ll want to check out this year’s Koufax awards at the Wampum website. Unlike the Satin Pajamas, the Koufax awards are American, and unabashedly leftist1. But they will introduce you to some terrific writing, and your blogroll will be the better for it.

Here’s the thing, though: in America, bandwidth (like quality health care or influence over Republican politicians) apparently costs money. And because they are feckless socialist layabouts, the Wampumites aren’t showered with bushels of sweet, sweet cash from Richard Mellon Scaife and his like. So if you want to help them spread embittered Marxist-Leninist falsehoods, you should send them some money. PayPal and Amazon make this easy and painless. Or, if you prefer, you can send big chests stuffed with pirate gold to their snail mail address.

Awards Season Far From Over

Our own blog awards! Do you know what I hereby announce? I hereby announce that the voting phase for the European Weblog Awards will commence on the 27th of January. Keep the nominations coming until then.

2004 Koufax Awards

If you want to, you can take a break from nominating blogs for the European Weblog Awards, and go and nominate A Fistful of Euros for the 2004 Koufax Awards. I think we’re a credible choice for Best Group Blog, Most Deserving of Wider Recognition, Best Writing (Mrs Tilton on her own would qualify us), and Best Series (our Ukraine coverage). We were a finalist for Best Group blog last year.

The Koufax are great, easily the best of the many blog awards, mainly because they’re the best for discovering excellent blogs you never heard of.

Today is a good day because I get to announce The First European Weblog Awards. The purpose of the awards is to recognize the efforts and contributions of Europe’s many talented bloggers, to maybe help build a sense of community among us, and, more than anything, it’s a chance for people to discover lots of new good blogs.
